TurboTax 2019 no longer supportsrecommends Windows 7 Revised 12/07/19: Microsoft’s Windows 7’s End of support date is January 14th, 2020. After this date security updates (2nd Tuesday of each month) will no longer be available.
It should be obvious that Windows 7 will become more and more venerable to hackers as time goes by. Therefore doing your taxes in an unsupported operating system will leave your most important personal information at risk. Which is why Intuit inc., the parent company of TurboTax will no longer recommends using Windows 7.
According to TurboTax support all you need to do is copy last years .tax file (located in Windows 7’s documents folder) over to your Windows 10 computer’s equivalent folder.
You can upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 if your system meets the minimum requirements. Also note that the “Free Upgrade” from Windows 7 to Windows 10 may still be available. Note: Always create an Image Backup of your entire disk drive that Windows 7 is installed on prior to attempting an upgrade. Should something go wrong you can use the image backup you created to restore Windows 7 and try again.
