Windows 10 new "Top apps" search box feature and Cortana March 6th, 2019
“Top apps” is in essence the replacement for Cortana which will have its own separate icon in the task bar starting with the spring / April 2019 update.
Top apps will display a set of icons when you place the cursor inside the Search box which represent the most often apps you use.
Located just above the "Top apps" icons will be a set of 6 categories to help slim down the list of files, documents and web searches.
Located below the "Top apps" icons will be your recent activities “Timeline” option and below the Timeline option a list of web browsing sites you have visited, local files and documents you have recently opened. Click on one of the web sites you have visited and it will open using the same browser (IE11, Edge, Firefox, Etc.) you used when you originally visited that web site.
If you right click on a Top apps icon you will see a list of actions available which are specific to that Top app. In the example shown below you can “Run as administrator”, “Open file location” (opens File Explorer to display when the file is located on your disk drive), “Pin to Start”, “Pin to Taskbar” and “Uninstall” the app.
