9) Create an image backup after moving to the larger SSD
After your SSD is configured you need to create another image backup (of the whole drive / all partitions) using the same instructions outline in step #4. This backup will be your new baseline for the larger SSD..
You will notice that there is a time lapse of more than a month between my original baseline backup of the smaller SSD and when I created the baseline backup of the larger SSD. Some of this is due to the time and effort to document and write this article and some delay due to the fact that there is now a new version of Acronis (Acronis 2015 makes no mention of Disk Signatures in the User’s guide, I’m waiting on a reply from Acronis) AND a defect in the Samsung 840 EVO drive which results is a decrease in performance over time. As of 9/23/2014 Samsung’s Technical Support reports that they are aware of the issue and it’s in the hands of their design team. A fix may require a firmware update which can be done via the Magician utility. I would strongly suggest the before you update the firmware to create another image backup to protect yourself in case something goes wrong with the update and the data on the drive is erased.
