2) Create a bootable True Image “Recovery / Rescue” CD/DVD media or USB Flash Drive: Acronis includes a means of creating bootable “Rescue” media such as a DVD or USB flash / thumb drive which may be needed in order restore the image backup of your smaller SSD to the larger SSD drive if your laptop only has space for a single drive.
The Acronis user’s guide is a bit confusing on how to create the bootable media using numerous terms most of which are synonymous but still confusing. So I have included the instructions needed to create a CD.
a) Insert a blank CD (or USB 1GB Flash drive if no CD / DVD drive is available) b) Start Acronis and click on the ‘Backup and Recovery’ tab.
Click on the ‘Create bootable media’ option and click ‘Next’.
Click on the Acronis True Image 2014 box.
No Bootable media startup parameters are necessary, click ‘Next’.
c) Select either the CD/DVD option or USB option (if you have a Thumb /Flash drive inserted), if you have more than 1 CD/DVD drive, then click the pull down arrow to choose the drive that contain the blank media. Click the ‘Proceed’ button located in the lower right corner.
CD/DVD option selected, click ‘Next’.
The ‘Bootable Media creation parameters’ window will open, click the ‘Proceed’ button to create the CD.
Note: USB Flash drive may need to be formatted.
About a minute later the ‘created successfully’ status should be displayed.
Click the ‘Finish’ / ‘OK’ button to return back to the ‘Tools’ menu.
Close the CD tray, reboot / restart the computer and verify you can load the recovery media. You may need to use the keyboard ‘Up’ arrow to select the Acronis True Image option; otherwise by default your Windows operating system will load.
Remove the CD or eject USB drive and label the sleeve or USB flash drive then reboot the computer and start / load Windows 7.
