USPS - No more Saturday delivery Feburary 6th, 2013
The Post Office is losing too much money and generating red ink. But the real problem is lack of control over advertising.
I know of no business in their right mind that would allow a competitor to place an advertisement on their front door, the side or back of a delivery truck or other location. But the Post Office allows companies to send out bills to their customers with an envelope that has the words “Save a stamp” or something similar as a means of enticing customers to pay online.
Do you think Joe of Joe’s plumbing would allow XYZ plumbers to place an ad on his truck in effect saying “Save an XYZ plumber, call 555-1212”? How about a big well known bank with an ad placed on their front door that says “Save some gas, bank at your local savings bank, they are just a quick drive from your home”.
Would Microsoft allow this slogan on their packaging: "Help save a tree, buy an Apple" !
Now if I were the Post Office I’d immediately suspend the bulk mailing rate privileges of any company that places a “Save a stamp” logo on the return envelope. Let them pay the full rate just like you and I do.
